I am sickened by the faux outrage that is so trendy among members of Congress regarding the bonuses at AIG. They are unable to get enough votes to terminate the pensions for life that some of their former colleagues are collecting from prison but they can all take turns talking on TV about how disgusted they are over the AIG bonuses.

As sickening as the AIG bonuses are, and they are.. I find it just another episode of self serving grandstanding on the part of most members of Congress who care ...

There are, as you might imagine, many different types of bagels. The coffee offerings are very similar to Starbucks.

The breakfast bagels are very good. ( I eat them at the franchise in the Detroit airport all the time).

This could be a good little break from a boring day.

We just ate at the Thai and I. It is located in Tigerville. This is a "down home" little cafe.

We had Chicken Stir Fry and a Baby Club. The Club was as good as the one served at the Glassy Club. The Stir Fry was pretty good. Their hamburgers looked VERY good. Our total bill, with 20% tip was $18.33

If you are an epicurian or an atmosphere snob...stay away. If you want to get out and not spend a lot of money, it is close and definitely has some good menu items.

As a property owner, I’d like to share my thoughts on this Forum. First, this Forum is a great resource for Glassy and other Cliffs property owners. Many thanks to all those that have helped develop and implement it. Among the resources I feel are, or will be most beneficial are the calendar, restaurant reviews, service provider recommendations, social events, travel, etc.

However, I have one major complaint. It is the posting of what I believe is “our dirty laundry.” Specifically, it is ...

Had an occasion to stop by Creature Comforts in Inman today. I had heard their advertisement on the radio. I was very impressed with the facility, cleanliness, activities and the genuine sense of caring for the animals entrusted to them. They have a vet on site who is also the owner along with her husband. They offer quite a few activities to keep their charges engaged and their rates are reasonable. We will be using them the next time we go out of town. Phone # 864-472-1790. Web site www.creaturecomfortsresorts.com

Roof Repair

I highly recommend Barry Simmons, dba Southern Shingle and Maintenance for any roof repairs. Had a leak, called Barry and he came out the next day. Was tied up the next few days because had other jobs, but called me on Saturday morning and said he would come out and fix the roof on Saturday because he had looked at the weather report and rain was predicted for Monday. Came out fixed the roof and the bill was quite reasonable.

Dear Neighbors,

I returned from my 8th trip to Russia in September. As usual I visited sites and attended performances I I had never seen.

This time the highlight was the opera at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg and the ballet at the Bolshoi in Moscow.

I have seen Swan Lake at 5 different venues in Russia but the performance at the Bolshoi overwhelmed all of the others.

If you would like to visit St. Petersburg and Moscow led my me I am proposing 2 trips. The first in May of ...

Have had dinner at the "Bin" 4 times and have never been disappointed. Took out of town guests from DC area and they were pleasantly suprised as to the quality of the food, the wait staff and the size of the helpings. If you haven't been yet, take a trip. Well worth it. Be careful though the appetizer size serving are more than enought to fill any appetite.

I have a buddy in Houston who puts golf trips together to play Ireland. Marty Fleckman in a PGA Professional instructor who played on the tour in the late 60s and early 70s. His greatest claim to fame on the tour is that he is only one of four tour professionals to win the very first tournament that they participated in.

I'm posting a trip he presently has on his website. He is willing to put together "personalized" trips provided there are at least 10 participants. He includes ...

Europe on a Gold Wing

There were curious looks on the faces of the West German border guards as our passports were handed back to us and we headed towards no-man’s land. We traveled through a complexity of barbed wire, tall wire mesh fencing, steel and concrete – towards the East German border. Tall concrete towers with the nozzles of machine guns aimed down at the road, gave one an eerie feeling. From these towers, high-powered binoculars scrutinised each vehicle and its occupants. It ...

"Hair-raising"

It was a boisterous evening. Unremitting rain was being driven horizontally across the bleak landscape. The howling wind found every little crevice and aperture in the building. Inside though was my refuge – it was usually cosy and always snug, and every morning and every evening, in fact everyday, I hand-milked 14 cows.

This particular evening, treacherous as the weather was - there was an almost dreamlike quality of luminosity striking through the windows. This, ...

I wanted to recommend Kim at Pet Gallery in Landrum. She does a great job with our schnauzer and her price is extremely reasonable. The only drawback is that she stays booked and I usually have to call a week in advance...of course that is somewhat due to the fact that I have to take Jazzi on Saturday since I teach school. Most of you won't have that constraint. Her number is 457-5151. She is closed on Sundays and Mondays and open Tuesday-Saturday.
